Unanimously Endorsed by the Public Safety Commission

“Leadership is not about being in charge, it is about taking care of those IN your charge.”

“I proudly endorse Nils Nehrenheim to be the next Mayor of Redondo Beach. I’m excited to work with a leader who not only is transparent in the decisions that are being made but inclusive in the discussions regarding the choices provided that inform that decision.”

Austin Carmichael, Public Safety Chair

Fire Department Reforms

Our Fire Department has been completely rebuilt since 2017. We have the newest Fire Engines in the South Bay, updated training, new management, and a recently passed $93 million bond.

We identified significant infrastructure challenges, including the need to remodel or replace its three fire stations, two of which are nearly 70 years old. These updates aim to modernize facilities and improve operational efficiency. This led to the creation and passage of Measure FP.

This has been going on since 2017, and there are more to come. Our Fire Department has undergone massive changes. Today, we have the best Fire Department we have ever had.

Everyone agrees. Thank you to the residents to support this endeavor.

MOVING FORWARD

As your next Mayor, I will

  1. Make sure our Public Safety Bond, Measure FP, will finish on time and on budget.
  2. Continue to fully staff our Department so that we can respond to any emergency.
  3. Ensure the best training for our firefighters and paramedics.
  4. Find Federal and State Grants to augment our Measure FP, training, and many other needs.

Police Department Reforms and Focus

We added two Police Officers, specifically dedicated to traffic enforcement in the last budget cycle. Since 2017, our Department has been dedicated to quality of life, ensuring that our beach town is not ruined by the issues like the West Side deals with.

We have a created a dedicated “Quality of Life” enforcement team, and are at full staffing for the first time in years. We don’t just talk about public safety, we implemented reforms that focused in on prevention and quality of life in the last eight years.

Our Department has the latest in technology, from drones to motor-bikes to body cameras.

MOVING FORWARD

As your next Mayor, I will

  1. Make sure traffic enforcement, along with e-bike enforcement are top priorities.
  2. Ensure our positions are fully staffed for all positions.
  3. Ensure our Police are equipped and trained to enforce against truck, muffler, noise, and many other safety issues.
  4. Ensure transparency, with data collection and reporting that is easily accessible for the public to see.

Brought the numbers down since 2017!

in 2017, our homeless count was 261.

Redondo Beach achieved functional zero in June 2024. Specifically for the January- to-June measurement period, the city had an inflow of 65 homeless individuals and an outflow of 66.

We are the FIRST city in LA County to achieve this. We did this through Grants, hiring the right people, services and continuous follow-up.

We created a model that other cities are following.

MOVING FORWARD

As your next Mayor, I will

  1. Seek more Federal and State Grants to make sure our Homeless programs are sustainable, long term.
  2. Create and foster relationships that keep programs like Project Moonstone, and Pallet Shelters, and homeless outreach viable for the long-term, with full accountability.
  3. Sustain our “Functional Zero” homeless numbers at the zero level.
  4. Find ways to minimize any cost to our General Fund.
